Dec 9, 2015 : What’s New, and What’s Coming in SSMS and SSDT


If you use SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) or SQL Server Data Tools (SSDT), you do NOT want to miss the December Oregon SQL meeting. We have several Senior Managers from the SSMS and SSDT development Teams down from Microsoft to both show us the next generation of key improvements AND discuss the roadmap for future enhancements with these key SQL Server tools.

What’s New, and What’s Coming in SSMS

Sanjay Nagamangalam and Ken Van Hyning from the SSMS Team will chat with us about what enhancements we can expect from SQL Server Management Studio – the most used SQL Server tool in both the DBA and Developer communities.

    Sanjay Nagamangalam
    Sanjay Nagamangalam is a Principal Program Manager Lead in the SQL Server division at the Microsoft India Development Center where he helps champion world-class developer & manageability experiences for SQL Server. Before this, Sanjay was responsible for the developer & tools experience for the ADO.NET Entity Framework and helped create the ADO.NET Entity Designer. Prior to joining Microsoft, Sanjay lived in the Bay Area where he co-founded a technology consulting firm (EM3Systems.com) and served as VP technology in a leading online textbook retailer (BIGWORDS.com). Sanjay spent several years at Corel Corporation (Canada) where he headed the Corel WordPerfect and Corel Ventura development teams and shipped several successful releases of both products. Before Corel, Sanjay was Chief of R&D at a security company in Bangalore (India).
    Ken Van Hyning
    Ken Van Hyning, Development Manager at Microsoft, leads a team of software developers building a new generation of management tools for SQL Server.


    What’s New, and What’s Coming in SSDT

    Eric Kang and Kevin Cunnane from the SSDT Team will show off the changes that the Developer and Business Intelligence communities can expect to see with SSDT.

      Eric Kang
      Eric Kang is a Senior Program Manger in Microsoft SQL Server Data Developer team since 2006. Specialized in data developer experience in SQL tools and Azure SQL Database portal.

      Kevin Cunnane
      Kevin Cunnane – Experienced Software Developer. Have worked on UI development, productizing research technologies, and integration. Outstanding academic background, graduating first in class at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Interested in expanding skill set and taking part in challenging projects.

      Specialties: C#, .NET, SQL, Visual Studio, Core Java, Enterprise Java, SOA, Eclipse plugin development, server-side Web technologies (servlets, JSPs, struts framework), natural language processing technologies (UIMA, parser technology), Javascript


      In both sessions, you should expect an in-depth look at the tooling for the SQL Data Platform The presenters will share what investments are being made, and the modernization roadmap for the SQL tooling stack.
