Machine Learning Services with Python and R support has transformed SQL Server into a powerful AI platform. Sumit Kumar Sumit Kumar is a Program Manager in Microsoft Machine Learning team. He leads the Python and R integration in SQL Server as SQL Server Machine Learning Services. Before that Sumit was a Program Manager in Bing’s Intent Platform team. There he helped build Microsoft’s text understanding service using machine learning and NLP techniques, that powers many proactive experiences in Cortana and Outlook family of products. Prior to that he has worked for many years on Microsoft’s developer products, focusing mainly on Visual Studio features for C++ developers. Sumit has an MS degree in Computer Science from the University of Texas at Dallas.

The “Global Power BI Hackathon” challenged our world-wide Power BI (PBI) community with a fun and competitive opportunity to leverage the PBI platform for creatively expressing public data in a meaningful way. The goal was to have local PBI communities compete and create PBI apps that entertain, educate, and inspire people to facilitate positive change through the data stories that are visualized. Solutions were judged based on visual design, technical design, user engagement, and utility to crown an overall winner. The winner will then be pooled with other community winners to compete on a global level for best Hackathon solution.

Xinyu and Ron will present their recent winning solution to the Restaurant Management Advisory Dashboard, the latest Hackathon competition.

Ron is a senior business executive with a long history in a variety of industries. He is a co-founder of Wacom Technology, the market leader in graphic digitizer tablets. Ron was also the Chief Financial Officer within the commercial fishing industry, and now leads the business intelligence effort of Audigy Group, a management advisory firm within the healthcare space.

Xinyu is a Business Intelligence Analyst of Tektronix, the industry leader in designing and manufacturing test and measurement equipment. Xinyu has various experiences in performing business analyses and building interactive tools to provide business insights and help sales executives make better decisions. Xinyu has a special interest in data visualization, machine learning, and databases.

    Sumit’s presentation of machine learning intelligence at the database-level was very interesting. It is motivating me to learning more about the capability within SQL Server 2017.
